Music Journal Pro - Practice + metronome app to log time and bpm App Reviews

Rejuvenated my piano practice

In general, keeping a practice journal or list of assignments for myself is a very tedious endeavor, which Ive as a result been very poor at. This app comes very close to doing it all for aiding my piano practice. You just set your tempo and start and stop the stopwatch(doubles as a metronome if needed) for each piece, and Music Journal keeps track of your time and BPM progress. Very little user entry needed. It also has a field for jotting practice notes, however it would be nice if the app could keep adding practice notes through time, ie have date stamped entries. Also, Dropbox and multiple device sync sound like good ideas.

Great helpful app but Almost 10 months without update

Just a few suggestion: 1. Time allocation and notifier - there are many times when I am interrupted with my practice and forget to turn off timer, the timer is still running and off-course time becomes inaccurate. It would be much better if for example I want to practice a scale for 15min then I have to use a scale practice app, a overhead notification with sound will say that my time is finished and is now recording excess time.. 2. How about motivational Milestone Badges? That would really help and make this app more exciting. 3. Multiple device sync Thanks much for this beautiful app.. Really helps.. :) Sent from my iPad

Best practice log app out there

But thats unfortunately not saying much since I think there is only one other active app. This is in desperate need of an update. On my personal wish list would be iCloud sync, sorting by category (besides folders) and some improved charting. All that said, I still use this every day and would gladly pay something for an update.

The best tool out there, but it needs to be better

This is a solid practice tracker. I havent found a better one out there and it covers all of the basic essentials adequately. Two features would push this from a 3 star app to a 5 star app: - Sync between devices without having to use the clunky "email your saved file to yourself solution". - A practice planner that lets you set playlist goals for your next practice session. I would love to be able to plan my practice session over my lunch hour with pre-set timers (10 minutes of scales, 10 minutes of etude #1, 10 minutes of etude #2, 30 minutes of sonata in the key of whatever). Then when I get home I just set open that play list and go. Get to the end of a section of practice and an alarm goes off to remind me to move on and focus on something else.

Fantastic app, use it daily

I love this app. I have never consistently kept a practice log until I got this app. I only rated it a four because there are two things it needs--1-the ability to move items between files, so it could actually function as a set list. I would love to be able to use this for everything instead of having to go to my spreadsheet set list. 2--it really should sync between devices. Add these 2 upgrades, it will be a 5, hands down.

Very helpful for motivation

I love this app and it really helps me with my motivation to practice as I can see all the hard work I put in (or dont put in!). I would have easily given it five stars but I dont like that the "stop the metronome" and the "stop practicing the song" button are so closely related. I often want to continue practicing the song but stop the metronome and I end up stopping the practice and dont realize it because of the big stop button. Of course I can input it later manually but often Im not paying attention to the time. It would be nice if the "stop practicing this song" would give a warning or if they were on different screens to lessen the confusion.

Great for motivation

I use this app daily and it has definitely helped me to track my practice habits. I love this app and am so glad I found this! I have some suggestions for improvement: aside from the sync option everyone else already suggested, Id like to see some cosmetic improvements. Something about the aesthetics screams old-fashioned. (Has to do with the colors and fonts; no offense but who buys brown notebooks?) Would love to have a different sound option for the metronome. Also, would be great if we could just quickly type in the tempo we want. Keep up the great work and thank you!

Good, but neglected

Ive used this app a lot. The interface is idiosyncratic, but oh well. It is possible to arrange materials but not impossible. But I think the creator has moved on to greener pastures; no updates in a long time. And it needs some features: --More control over the metronome (volume, accents, subdivisions on the beat) --Recording. This would be fantastic, even just to add a snippet or two. --Goal setting. Advance x number of bpm per session if the user checks a box. String together individual lessons or sections to make a sequence of goals. I hope the developer returns to this app and gives it some more features, because its almost there. In the meantime, buy it anyway.
