Good, but not quite great yet.

First of all, I want to say that I really do love this app. Its such a great idea, and Im amazed that this is really the only one like it that Ive found. I guess thats because it caters to a pretty small niche of users...musicians who actually practice. The overall concept is solid, and the ideas behind the various features show some real insight into a musicians practice routine, which tells me that the people behind the app have enough experience to create something immensely useful for musicians. But, there are a few things that I feel could use some improvement that would only help make this app even better. First, they really need to address the BMP bug...the app simply does not accurately track BPM. In the practice history section of the app, it seems to always reflect a slower BPM than the one I entered last during my practice routine for that exercise, which keeps me from accurately tracking my progress from day to day. Another thing we really need in this app is the ability to delete and edit daily practice entries. As it stands, you can edit the time, as long as it is still the same day, but you cant edit or move folders once theyre created, or edit practice events from the past. This is basic functionality that should be included in any well designed app, regardless of its primary function. Sometimes, you need to reorganize your folders and excercises...that is basically impossible in its current form. One thing I would like to add to the Iwanna list for this app is a built in metronome...for an app that tracks BPM, that only seems logical, and having the app play back a click track that automatically updates as you adjust the BPM tracker would take one more distraction out of my practice sessions. I really hopwe that the developer will take some of these suggestions into consideration and continue to improve this app. If that happens, I will have no problem giving this app 5 stars.

Almost there

Great app, consider adding an audio recording feature.

Great tool for the busy musician.

As a graduate student at a conservatory playing in several ensembles, preparing for a graduate recital, and taking lessons with three different teachers organization is critical if I am to get all the necessary practice time. This app keeps all the pieces and exercises together with clear tracking for time and tempo. It is a must have for the serious practicing musician.

Horrible for iPad

Cant edit music or time once you enter name or time

Love it!

I love this app! The addition of the notes has really helped my practice time become more focused. Having the average practice time displayed helps me see what my girls have done with just a quick glance I just emailed the developer with a suggestion and he got back to me in less than an hour! Very impressed. Im looking forward to future features.

Just what I was looking for

I had gotten a notebook to start a journal of my guitar practice sessions. The thought occurred to find an app. Duh..... I found the free version of this one and after a couple days of using it I was hooked. It automates exactly what I wanted to record in a journal: BPM and the time spent on a given tune or exercise/scales/ arpeggios, etc. Simple. If the developer listens to some of the suggestions offered by other reviewers and incorporates them, all the better. This makes my practice time much more productive because I can see what Ive spent time on and what Ive missed. To address a previous review, I only use this on my iPad and its working flawlessly. UPDATE: 2 weeks using this and it has become my favorite App. Ive become much more focused and disciplined in my practice and playing.

Extremely useful

A useful app. Even has a metronome! Keeps track of practice time and songs. Great for students of any instrument!

Super fast fix. Great app.

That was a super fast update which restores the app on my iPod Touch. Thank you!!!

Great App.

This one of the few apps that us every day. A great way to see how far Ive come.

Focused goal setting practice

I have many things to say about this app but I can best summarize it by saying nothing has improved my playing more then using this app. Nothing.

Almost there!

I love this app, but it needs a feature that allows you to move songs between folders for prioritization. I would like songs for upcoming events to be moved into a "high priority" folder from their current folder, so I can better plan my practicing. This app could also use a daily notification so I dont forget to log. I would also love an option where I can see the full history of my notes for any individual song on one page to see how I have progressed or what I need to work on more.

Really good app

Definitely helps me stay focused and organized in the practice room. Would love to see other ways to track your time (by the week, month, etc) and love the in-app metronome. This has helped my practice time immensely!!!

Fantastic App

I never review apps but this one deserves a great a review if for no other reason than to encourage further development of an already fantastic app. It works great on ios7 on my phone and original iPad 1 running 5.1. The restore feature is great for when I run on my phone then can dump the entire file on to iPad for next practice session. Would be cool if I could remove the 40 bpm default for things I dont or cant use the metronome for. Some type of PDF score reader integration would be awesome too... But thanks and keep up great work on this app. Craigsmith.us

Love this app!

I practice a lot of different stuff, and this helps keep me organized and on track. Cant live without it!

Great App.

So useful that, besides practice, I use it to conduct time studies on other things.

Great app, but needs sync

I love that this app only requires ios 5.0 and above because I need to be able to use this on the iPad. The app feels well written - its very responsive and the UI is intuitive and is definitely useful for a musician. However, with iCloud being out for several years and Dropbox out even longer, there absolutely needs to be a way to sync the data across multiple devices. Currently I need to email my data to myself before I use it on my phone and vice versa for my iPad. Either iCloud, Dropbox, a home-brewed solution, or combination thereof would make this a killer app, and help justify the $7 price tag.

Excellent for practice

Great program for weekly practice. I make a new folder for each week so I can track how much time Im spending on each piece that week. Easy to use, lots of great features. It would be nice if there was a way I could count how many times I played a piece.

Finally!!!!

The app is everything I ever wanted. Looking to reach a real 10,000 hours of practice now you can. Perfect for musicians

Great app. A suggestion.

The Music Journal app is a great tool. A suggestion -- the metronome is a great feature, but it would be nice if you added a bit more functionality. In particular, it would be nice to be able to adjust the accents on the beats. I often set my metronome ( on a different app) to accent beats differently to achieve different rhythm feels. I also agree with the reviewer who requested the ability to rearrange songs and folders. Thanks!

Very, very good app!!!

This is something I have used every day since I bought it! It has room for improvement, but I would buy it right now, and start supporting this developer right away if I were you! It is already totally worth the money, and as it evolves, I am sure it will cost more, so trust me, buy it and start using it right away. You will watch yourself get better quickly if you integrate it into your practice routine. Every great music teacher I have ever had has recommend keeping a practice journal, and this takes that concept to a whole other level. That being said, the first improvement would definitely be the ability to manage files a little better.... If you practice as many different things as I do, having this be as streamlined as possible would be helpful. I am almost sure it is already in the works, based on what I am seeing here, so I am just gonna go ahead and give it 5 stars on good faith. Thanks for making a great app! I dont usually take the time to leave reviews, but you deserve it!!!
